Profile: Daniel Holloway

Daniel will be your first port of call should you be inspired by the idea of Wandering Nomads. He will be able to point you in the right direction prior to deciding on a trek, offering advice regarding the most suitable itinerary, equipment to take and arrangements to make before departure.

With over 10 years trekking experience in the Samburu/Turkana district Daniel, with initial assistance from the renowned explorer Wilfred Thesiger* has established and fostered a trust with the many nomadic people who have accompanied him on his walks. Tapping into this reservoir of knowledge and drawing on the inspiration and help Wilfred gave him in the early years has enabled Daniel to explore some new uncharted routes, satisfying his desire for a greater understanding of the nomadic culture that thrives here. A chance meeting with Carls Waineina during one of these walks helped plant the seed of what has now become Wandering Nomads.

Based in the U.K. Daniel administers the enterprise liasing closely between Carls in Kenya and potential clients wishing to take a trek. If you want to know more please feel free to give him a ring or drop an email.

*The late Wilfred Thesiger - Wilfred lived for over 30 years in Maralal and conducted frequent expeditions in the region. Living in the U.K. Daniel was able to keep in touch relaying news from his friends in Maralal. A museum dedicated to him has recently been opened in the town celebrating his life in Kenya. A renowned explorer, Wilfred became a household name after the publication of 'Arabian Sands' (an account of his epic crossing of the Empty Quarter in Saudi Arabia). He has since published a book on his life in Kenya - click on suggested reading/links.
